Influencing your Potential Customer

I think everyone can agree that trying to persuade people into buying your product can be a difficult or next to impossible task. It is a key part of marketing to promote your business on a daily basis and to be able to get your message to the right individuals. By getting the message to them in a positive format you will close in on selling your product.

It really doesn’t matter what you have to budget for you to be effective in influence marketing. Just being able to convey the message to the right person at the right moment is the most important aspect.

By producing top quality marketing materials on the image you wish to present people for your business and about yourself as a whole you must keep it consistent. Creating a list of all areas you will want to do in order to reach out to that potential customer is a good start.

Instead of trying to reach everyone you can think of, focus your target market on the customers that will more then likely need or want to purchase your product.

Do your advertising where the best potential customers might be. Market in places that people are more apt to purchase your product or service. So for example if you are selling pet supplies, try going to local area vet’s offices and ask to leave flyers and or samples of your product would be better then going to sporting goods store and trying to sell your product in that market.

Create business cards for you to give people when you meet them. Most business cards are thrown away, so make on that people can use. Items like a magnet or sticky not pad are good ideas where your company name and contact information are on them. These are examples of what customers will have those around and use and thereby seeing your business and your name on a daily basis.

Make the customer feel that they are important with positive acknowledgments and let them know that you appreciate them. You can send a thank you note along with the item when they purchase your product or a quick email of your gratitude will go a long way.

Encourage your customers to tell others about you and your business. Word of mouth is a powerful and the least expensive of all advertising and marketing techniques you can do for your business. If you create what I call the “wow” factor to all of your clients then they will have no problem telling others about your product.

Lastly and probably the most important point to make is always do your best to make an unhappy customer happy again or to get that inactive customer back to buying your product again.

It will cost you less in the long run if you pick up the phone and inquire if you can do anything to bring that not so great experience a more positive one. Try contacting that inactive customer instead of trying to find a new customer by sending a personalized email asking how they are doing and if there is anything you can do to bring them into making another purchase. Sometimes the little things mean more to that customer then anything else you possibly could offer to them.'

So before you rush off and start spreading your content all over the web try some of these tips and strategies. Test them see which work the best for you and your business.

At the basic level of internet marketing keep focused on one main point with good flow of content. Make sure to break up your content by adding bullets and or numbered points. This makes for easy reading for your visitors.

At the end of your last paragraph and in your resource box make a call of action. State something that will make your readers want to learn more about your product and or services. Then follow this up in your resource box (your byline) and tell them to click the area for whatever you are offering to them.

Link your own website, the one you own and not to an affiliate link in your resource box. Keep in mind that affiliate links more then likely will not last forever and if you redirect to a link that no longer exists well you might as well count that sale up as a loss.

Value your Customer to Customer Connections

Today, many businesses are relying on the social web to reach their customers; however, few are believed to be doing successfully. Most companies are planning to spend more on their social media marketing in 2010 then ever before.

Although Social Media is definitely a good form of marketing your business, they should also be looking at expanding their influence on yet another level. This level is customer to customer connections.

The Web has made it easy to build an internet relationship. It is inexpensive and easier then ever before. This should not mean that a business can expect to build a deep connection with their entire customer base. It’s just not practical to think along those terms.

An effective method of creating a deeper client relationship is to reward the users by providing them with exclusive offers for member’s only events. This will bring a loyal customer following. It will also keep your community of followers active and engaged in your business. Build your online presence so that your business is appealing to your customer base within your market.

Inspire your most passionate customers by putting them to work. Sounds a little crazy but it’s been proven to work. Encourage your customers to spread the word through their personal networks about your business. This will then create a ripple effect as the message is being passed down from network to network.

Building real connections with your customers requires commitment. By using social media, you will obtain a base line level of involvement that can be used for generating bigger returns to your business. You can build that baseline by being more involved with your customers by gaining value from the channel they can help you create through their social network.

Don’t sit there wasting your time counting how many Facebook fans you have, you should focus more on creating a social community that will deliver a value that will allow them to connect to each other and then this in turn will increase your brand.

Remember customers exist offline as well as online, it will be your job to build that network through having a strong and passionate following customer based community.

Competitive Analysis

To put together an effective business strategy, it's essential to understand two basic questions. First, what is your company doing and what are your competitors doing? You may have a handle on what's going on under your own roof, but developing a detailed picture of your competitors' activities and this requires some research.

Competitive intelligence is a field of strategic research that specializes in the collection and analysis of information about rival firms. Don't worry you won’t be required to dive in a dumpster or do some shady tricks for the information. Instead, competitive intelligence is about adhering to a strict ethical code by collecting bits of information that are available either in the public domain or from other players in the marketplace. The goal is to accumulate enough data to make meaningful comparisons between your business and your competitors and you will be able to make better informed strategic decisions as a result.

Develop a competitive strategy and that starts by evaluating how your company is performing to that of your competitors. This is not the time to play guessing games to evaluate how your company is going to stand up to that of your competitor. You have to assess your own and other companies based upon data and research.

Some questions to ask when making your analysis

1) What products does your competitor have in their channel and how will they market it

2) How does your businesses sales present themselves for all the different customer areas?

3) What other companies are out there that have or will be making similar offers that you are making?

4) What products or services do you and your competitors offer and how do they compare?

5) What are does your marketing budget look like and how are you going to market your product as well as how does your rival do their marketing?

6) Are there any differences in how much it takes for you to produce a product compared to your competitor? Who has the advantage?

7) Where are you selling your products and what are your intended consumers? Does your competitor fit into those areas compare the two and see if there are any similarities and or differences.

8) How well is your business organized and how do you operate at the same time compare how your competitors are doing those same things.

9) What channels do you use compared to your competitor. Meaning do you sell direct or mail order or the web.

10) Also evaluate if your competitor could be thinking or looking into a joint venture or strategic partnership, if so that’s something you might research for your business.

This is just a start in getting your framework together. There are many other aspects to Competitive Analysis. I will definitely be commented on those areas down the road. Remember that Competitive research will demand you to be resourceful and creative, remember that you will need to be mindful of the ethics and legalities as you do your investigating and research work.

How seriously do you take your Business?

One of the biggest downfalls for a great many home based businesses is that they aren’t taking it seriously. Sure, you put effort into it, but by not taking it seriously and what I am saying, mean by not taking it as serious as you would a traditional job. With a traditional job you know you have to get up out of the bed and take your booty to work or suffer consequences. Show up late for work or call in too many times and it will cost you your job. With a home based businesses you do not have a set schedule other then the one you make for yourself. If you do not treat it with the same respect and seriousness as you would a traditional job that one morning late start can easily lead to two, three and so on.

Along the same line of thinking is that all the frequent breaks, extended lunches, spending time on the internet “playing” rather then working, taking extra long weekends are all bad habits as well as signs that you do not take your home based job serious. You wouldn’t do these things if you had a nine to five job, so why would you do so with your business?

If you think about this, it is a basically common sense that when you are told that the income you make in a home based business is only measured by what you put into it. If you are not working it, you are not making money. You may have been able to get by with that lazy attitude in your traditional job and still got your paycheck, but after a while a employer would have caught on to your lack of sincerity to the company and give you your walking papers.

With your own home based business, although there is no one there to push you and make you do what you need to do, your paycheck will show just what you have or have not accomplished. When you don’t make money, you don’t pay your bills and the end result is failure.

Marketing Strategies - Tips for Article Submissions

If you are writing your own articles to promote your business and it's products or services, then ask yourself the following questions.

Have you thought about how much time you spend creating good titles for your articles so that readers and publishers will enjoy viewing them?

Do you find yourself having a hard time with developing the main body of your article and then tossing in the title with no real thought put into it?

If you are doing this then I strongly suggest that you do your utmost in understanding what many publisher guidelines are when submitted online articles.

If you follow these simple guidelines and understand them, you will have an easier time you are writing your business articles to be posted online.

Article titles should not be too short nor should they be too long. If it is too short, your readers will just glance at the title and form their own idea of your writing, so when possible use more then two words within your title. If the title is more then 100 characters, look at a better way to bring that count down to fewer than 100.

Do not make the title promotional, which means never put the name of your business, products or services or your website within the body of your title. Keep that information mainly at the end of your article.

Using too much punctuation is never a good thing in your title. However if you like to use those only use one question mark or exclamation point. It’s over kill and it looks unprofessional. Also never end your title with a period. A period cause people to pause and what you want is for them to continue on and actually read your article.

If you are writing a lot about similar topics, make sure that your titles are always different from another. Repetitive titles or articles show that you are not being creative and it shows signs of being lazy and uncaring about you are actually writing about.

Your headline is one of the most important parts of your article other then the content. Spending time in creating a good title will help you finish your content while avoiding anyone from being turned off before even deciding to read about your business and it's products and services.

Ways to Make Your Business Stand Out

I can definitely say it takes more then advertising or having a web site or even using referrals or blogs to get your business noticed, to stand out amongst all the others on the internet.

You have to communicate to others as to how and why your business is different. Let me show you some ways that might assist you in distinguishing you above the crowd!

Your Product – Offer a product that is so exceptional that it stands out and people recognize it by your company branding. Make it a valuable service or product that will be useful to your potential customers. Having a business product that is trendy will get you noticed.

Your Services – How well is your product packaged? Make sure that the product and service name come across as powerful.

Your Niche - Find your market niche and become a dominant competitor that is in your industry. Approach is they key and when you specialize in your niche your can afford to bring up the price of your product or service

Your Offer – You can become known by the offers you make. Making offers such as 100 % refunds if not satisfied will have people look closer at your business as well as your company products and services.

Solve Problems – Look at the market you are in, is there something that other businesses are not willing or are shying away from? If so, you need to focus on what others are not doing and promote what you do that others aren’t willing to do. Look for the gaps in your competitors offerings and jump on those opportunities and use this as a way to show what you do that others are not.

Your Message – Is everything you and your company does being communicated? Is there anything that your company provides that you don’t see being included in your messages? Position yourself effectively in your communications. For example, making a statement “We make your business more Valuable” and you need to deliver on that statement.

Your Guarantee – Make your offer of a guarantee a strong one, one that no other company in your industry would even consider doing. Don’t shy away from this area because you are probably already guaranteeing your work and your company products or services, you just aren’t saying it. Be bold with your announcement – it will get you the results you want.

Your Customer Service – We all know that this is important for any business. You need to create your own type of customer service. Think of the top companies out there that are making it know about their customer service. They have people telling others about them and how great their customer service is and that attracts new customers! Give them more then you promise – perhaps a gift or a service for free and it surely will get you noticed!

Your Clients - Look at who your current clients are and find what is the most common about them. Talk to them; see if they can tell you why they chose your company and why they keep coming back and why they are referring you to others. Always watch your competitors closely and see if you can do something better then they are currently doing.

After you have decided upon what your strategy or strategies will be to make your business stand out make sure all your promotions and advertising is based around that difference.

You have to commit to it and stay the course, building your brand takes patience and a good deal of time. If you do, it will pay off for you and your company!

Set Goals and You Will Be Successful!

When you decide you want to work at home you must set goals for yourself. You will need to have a plan. If you just quit your day job and say OK I am going to work at home you, will fail miserably. There are goals you need to set for your work at home career. Asking yourself the following questions will help you to establish your work at home goals.

1. How much money do I need to make to keep my current standards of living? It is obvious that you will not want to less than you are making currently. You need to look at your monthly expenses and decide what you have to have money wise to pay your bills. We all know you want to make more money than you do currently and that is a great goal to have, but you need to know what the least amount you can make is going to be.

2. How much time do I want to invest into a work at home job? Each work at home job will require a different amount of time invested. You need to decide how much time you are willing to devote to a work at home job. Too little time and you will not be successful. A job will not run itself. Any work at home job will require you to put in time and effort. You also need to ask yourself how much time you have to invest in a work at home job. If you have kids that are young you won't be able to devote eight hours of daytime, you may need to consider an evening job after they have gone to bed. The amount of time you want to invest into a work at home job is a very important goal to set.

3. What do you hope to achieve from your work at home job? Are you looking to supplement your current income? Are you looking to completely make a living by working at home? Are you looking to work for someone else, or be your own boss? Figuring out exactly what you want can be difficult, but it is an important when setting your goals.

Once you have the answers to these questions you will be ready to decide on what type of work at home job you are interested in. Having goals will help you to become successful with your work at home job.

Did you do your research?

When most new home based business owners start their new endeavor of making their business successful they work more on the fun and exciting parts of running their business. They focus on areas like their business strategies and looking for new markets; then focusing on the more boring, or mundane tasks of their business. True, a business end of a home based business is and can be a chore but it is also important as the more exciting fun parts of running your business.

In the business world, whether the task is big or small or even where your business may be located out of, the leading cause for the failure of home based businesses to end up failing is that the did not determine whether or not the market is good enough to support their business.

A small business entrepreneur will investigate the supply, demand and even the future demand of a market. Doing preliminary market research will give you a good idea as to how successful your existing business plan is and if it will prevail or even if modifications are needed to be made or lastly if you should just scrap the entire plan altogether.

Market research will consist of talking to others in the same industry as yours as well as supplies and even the potential customers. Check with your chamber of commerce or trade associations who will be able to give you valuable insights as to where your home based business will fit into their community or the market as a whole.

By doing this you will get a good idea where what you are doing is cutting edge or something that has already been ran into the ground by other businesses. Being too innovative or even too new, you may find that your location will not work well with such advanced forward thinking and you may need to evaluate and even try toning it down and taking it a bit slower.

It may also require you to look again at your business plan and strategies and widen your market area or even add a larger variety of products and or services, and possibly deciding that there is no market for your business and tossing the idea out the window. Whatever you do, don’t wait to do your research, it is never too late to evaluate the market and it is forever changing for home based businesses.
